Household trash is picked up curbside on Tuesdays by Pine Tree Waste. Each bag must have a trash sticker prominently displayed. Bags cannot weigh more than 40 pounds and needs to be put curbside by 7:00 a.m. Please refrain from putting trash out the night before as birds can easily tear a trash bag apart and Pine Tree Waste will not pick up scattered debris. Multiple bags can be placed in a trash container, but each bag must have a sticker.
Trash Stickers must be purchased by all residents – the town no longer provides any free stickers. Stickers are sold at Town Hall in any number (1 -100) for $1.50 each.
For the convenience of our residents, Hancock Grocery has agreed to sell trash stickers. They will offer them only in full sheets of 5 stickers and will cost $7.75 per sheet. Single stickers are NOT available at Hancock Grocery and only cash is accepted for trash stickers.
We understand many residents are upset at the recent dissolution of Coastal Recycling. However, please be aware that less than 1% of our curbside waste goes to a landfill. Our trash is taken to PERC and burned to generate electricity. You can read about this process here. The ash waste is all that is taken to landfills.
