Code Enforcement

New MUBEC

Don Baker is the town’s CEO. His office hours are Wednesday’s 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm and Thursday’s from 9am – 12:00pm. He can be reached at 422-3393. It is the CEO’s goal to assist applicants through the permitting process. You can e-mail any questions and your online applications to [email protected].

 

Septic Permit Online Search

You can now search the State of Maine website for septic permits from 2003 to current. Please visit the website here.

 

Building Permits

Our Environmental Control Ordinance outlines the rules for building in Hancock. Click here for a for a short summary or you can view the entire ordinance under the Ordinances Section of this Website. A building permit is required before any construction project begins. It is always a good idea to check with the Code Enforcement Office before starting any project.
You need a Building/Land Use Permit:

  • Change of Use
  • For construction of an addition
  • For demolishing or moving a building
  • Placing a sign
  • Activities listed in the Schedule of Uses
  • Any earth moving or other improvements in the shoreland zone or floodplain
  • Driveway/Road entrance
  • Fabric Shelters
  • Vegetative Clearing
  • Home Occupation
